Norovirus detection in raspberries

Noroviruses are the leading cause of non-bacterial gastroenteritis worldwide, they are transmitted from person to person, but food can also be a common source of infection.

The method involves the isolation of viral particles from food and the reverse transcription process since the viral genome is an RNA molecule. Detection of norovirus itself (gene groups GI, GII and GIV) is performed using Real time PCR technology in the Molecular Diagnostics Department of Croatiakontrola (according to ISO 15216-2: 2013).

Croatiakontrola is authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia as the official laboratory for performing norovirus analyzes on raspberries.
